Lola’s Wings was started by myself, a native New Yorker, and my partner Si who was raised in Devon. Being from New York, I saw a gap in the market for authentic New York style chicken wings and wanted to bring them to the UK event scene. I have experience working in restaurants and hotels and also a degree in Foodservice and Event management. Si grew up in the hospitality industry, working in the hotel and restaurant industry in Devon, and moving into business development as he got older. With this combination we thought we could successfully bring our chicken wings to festivals and events throughout the UK.
We teamed up with Piper’s Farm, just outside Exeter, to ensure we only serve the highest quality, properly free range, organic chicken. They are 12 day hung and I can assure you will be amongst the meatiest wings you will ever eat!
The very start of our story goes back a few years when I was studying abroad in Manchester and travelling to Malta on a romantic Ryan Air flight (ha!) when I sat next to an antisocial Englishman. Being that we were both travelling alone, we struck up conversation (apparently I was also slightly intoxicated) and decided to meet up during our stays in Malta. From then on we attended many festivals and events with food being the centre of our attention. We always talked about working for ourselves and eventually came to the conclusion of food truckin’. It’s been an amazing first year of trade, with a steep learning curve but also a great degree of success, and we’ve met some really lovely people. I’ll tell you a bit about our 2015 milestones shortly!
